TYPES OF VIRAL HEPATITIS

Hepatitis A

This type is derived from hepatitis A virus infection (HAV). This type of hepatitis is most often transmitted through the consumption of food or water contaminated with even tiny amounts of fecal matter from a person infected with hepatitis A.

HEPATITIS B

This type is derived from the hepatitis B virus (HBV). This type is transmitted through the puncture wound or contact with infected body fluids, such as blood, saliva or semen. Injecting drug use, having sex with an infected partner, or sharing razors with an infected person increases the risk of contracting hepatitis B.

HEPATITIS C

This type is derived from the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Hepatitis C is transmitted through direct contact with infected body fluids , typically through injecting drug use and sexual contact . HCV is one of the most common blood-borne viral infections in the United States .

HEPATITIS D

This is also called hepatitis delta . Hepatitis D is a serious liver disease caused by the hepatitis D (HDV) virus. HDV is contracted through a puncture wound or contact with infected blood . Hepatitis D is a rare form of hepatitis that occurs in combination with hepatitis B infection.

HEPATITIS E

Hepatitis E disease is water-based , caused by hepatitis E virus (HEV). Hepatitis E is found mainly in areas with poor sanitation and are usually caused by swallowing feces.
